52nd Gramado Film Festival announces Brazilian shorts and documentaries in competition

After announcing the 39 productions that make up the Brazilian and Gaúcho Feature Films and Gaúcho Short Films, the organization announced the competing films in the Brazilian Short Films and National Documentaries competitions. The news was announced at an event held at the Laghetto Stilo São Paulo hotel, in the capital of São Paulo. The meeting brought together the president of Gramadotur, Rosa Helena Volk, the curators, Caio Blat and Marcos Santuario, the actress and director Bárbara Paz, representing the board of the Academia Brasileira de Cinema, André Saddy, president of Canal Brasil, directors, producers, actors and journalists.

The selection of Brazilian Short Films was made by Daniela Siqueira, Daniela Strack, Fernanda Rocha and Daniel Rodrigues. Together, the commission evaluated 679 productions. Those selected come from all regions of the country, including films from Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Federal District, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo. The curatorship, composed of Santuario and Blat, evaluated 158 titles, choosing five documentaries for the competition.

Brazilian short films will be shown at the Festivals Palace

In addition to the screenings on Canal Brasil’s linear schedule, the organization announced that the 12 Brazilian short films will also be shown at the Palácio dos Festivals.

“Together with the entities, APTC-RS, SIAV-RS, FUNDACINE and ACCIRS, we understand that the Curtas-Brasileiros exhibition is an important element in making Gramado a window for meeting new talents with big names in national cinema and a unique opportunity for the dissemination of the short film format to the general public. Thus, we were able to maintain the exhibition within the event schedule, in person”, says Rosa Helena Volk.

The in-person screenings will take place on August 12th and 13th, with six films per session, at Palácio dos Festivals. On Canal Brasil, the show will air from the 12th to the 15th of August, always starting at 7pm, with three films per session.

The Competitive Documentary Exhibition continues with exclusive screening on Canal Brasil’s linear schedule, from August 12th to 16th, at 8:20 pm.

The 52nd Gramado Film Festival takes place between the 9th and 17th of August.
