Journalist and critic Marcos Santuario is passionate about cinema. During eight years of travels across Latin America, he became closely involved with the continent’s film productions. Later, while living in Uruguay, he joined the Uruguayan Cinematheque. Since then, his hobby turned into a profession, journalism shifted its focus to the cultural field, and his involvement only deepened. He is one of the founders of the Brazilian Film Critics Association (ABRACCINE) and the Film Critics Association of Rio Grande do Sul (ACCIRS), where he also served as vice president.
He holds a PhD in Communication from PUCRS and is a professor and researcher at Feevale University in Novo Hamburgo, working in the fields of communication, culture, and the creative industry. He is Assistant Culture Editor at the newspaper Correio do Povo, in Porto Alegre, and editor of the blog Cine CP, through which he covers various film festivals in Brazil and abroad. He is one of the authors of the books “Gramado – Trinta Anos de Cinema” and “100 Melhores Filmes Brasileiros,” by Abraccine. He is also the author of the books “Comunicação Globalizada na América Latina” and “Jornalismo e Mundo Novo.” He has been a curator of the Gramado Film Festival since its 40th edition, in 2012.
